Here is the finished doll's cot. I took apart the original cot, I sanded it down and re-painted it blue then I painted a woodland mural on both of the end panels. I then covered the whole thing in a protective top coat before putting it back together with new screws and washers. I made a mattress for the cot out of my daughters old Moses basket mattress and made a mattress cover and a doll sized baby sleeping bag out of some lovely foxy fabric that I found at a local haberdashery shop. I'm really pleased with the end result and I love the fact that something I played with as a child can get a new lease of life to be played with by my children.

I found my old doll's cot in my Mum's attic and decided to paint it up for my daughter as a present for when our second child arrives in the near future. These photos are of it before, after sanding and during painting- photos of the finished product to follow soon!

This is the first time I've posted anything in ages- time for being creative seems to go out of the window a little bit when you have a little one to look after! Yesterday I had a craft day with some friends and I made a giraffe baby toy (idea taken from pintrest). Not convinced that sewing is one of my strong points but my daughter seems pleased with it :-) Hoping to get back into illustration a bit now that she's getting a bit bigger- hopefully more posts to follow soon!

Here are pictures of the finished resin toy as promised! Making resin toys is not the easiest hobby but it was great fun to give it a go and try something 3.D for a change.

As
part of my final module at uni I decided to have a go at making one of
my character Illustrations into a 3.D resin toy- it's a lengthy process
and don't think it's something that I would particularly like to take up
doing on a regular basis but it was a really good experience and it was
fun to have a go at doing something really different for a change.
These are work in progress shots- photos of the finished thing to
follow!
Step one is to make a 3.D model of the character that I wanted to cast using 'sculpty' which needs to be baked in the oven to make it solid.
Next you need to make a mould out of silicone- this needed to be a two part mould so had to be done in two stages.
Theses are some pictures of my two part mould- cleaned up and ready to use for resin casting. Next step is to carve in some channels for the resin to be poured into so that the air can escape through them.
This is what the resin casting initially looked like- needs quite a bit of tidying up!
The toes didn't cast properly so I fixed them using 'milliput' I also cleaned up all of the loose bits using a scalpel.
Painting time! Needed a few base coats before I could start painting on any detail- will need a top coat to finish.
